Welcome message from the Local Committee

Dear colleagues,

Welcome to Berlin! We are delighted to welcome you to the 114th BiblioCon2026 – in a city that is constantly changing, challenging, and inspiring.

Under the motto “Analog meets algorithm,” we want to discuss how libraries can combine tradition and innovation, the past and the digital future.
Berlin is a place of diversity and movement, and this also applies to the library landscape. The Association of Public Libraries in Berlin (VÖBB) brings together twelve districts and countless people. The State Library, the libraries of the Technical University, the Free University, and Humboldt University—but also many smaller, specialized, and independent libraries, museums, and archives—shape the city’s world of knowledge with their commitment and expertise.

Despite nationwide austerity measures, reading rooms, digital research infrastructures, maker spaces, and scaffolding are creating spaces that enable openness, accessibility, and participation. Berlin thrives on the creative interplay of diverse perspectives—and this is precisely what is reflected in our library world.

In addition to intensive discussions and exciting specialist input at BiblioCon, you can also look forward to a rich cultural program (tips: https://mitvergnuegen.com/ and https://www.visitberlin.de). We wish you exciting days full of discoveries!
